Fairy Tale
Once upon a time a very long time ago, there lived deep in the old
forest a woodcutter and his wife with their twin little girls., the
girls were called Arwen and Ceri., Arwen had long dark hair and Ceri
was as blonde as the shining sun. The little girls loved to wander
in the forest and collect acorns and leaves and would often rest by
a tiny babbling brook.
One sunny day their mother called them in and asked them to go and
pick some vegetables from their little patch in the pretty cottage
garden , they were happy to do it as they loved the pretty garden
which was full of beautiful flowers, Hollyhocs, Geraniums, Stocks,
lavender , ROses and Honeysuckle grew up the wall and little flocks
and nasturtiums grazed the beds with tall lupins looking up to the
sun., there was a wonderful smell all around with the growing herbs
of sage, rosemary , thyme, lemon grass and many more. Arwen and Ceri
made their way to the little vegetable patch at the far end of the
garden carrying little baskets for the produce. They started to pull
up some lovely orange carrots and a cabbage and dug out some sweet
new potatoes. Just as they were making ready to go back to the
cottage Arwen stood still and stared at the garden wall, Ceri looked
too and could not see anything, they started to walk away when a
very gentle tinkling sound could be heard, they looked back , Arwen
crouched down and gave a startled ooh, Ceri did the same and there
right at the back of the Ivy climbing up the wall was a tiny fairy
sitting on an ivy leaf crying. she looked so sad the girls felt
tears in their eyes too.
Not knowing what to do Arwen got out her handkerchief and gently
wiped the fairy's eyes, her tears were golden. Well the little Fae
stood up and in what was a whisper of a voice told the girls she was
lost and was looking for her mother fae. THe girls were sad for her
and asked her name, she was called little petaldancer, her mother
had brought her to the garden and was looking for a lady bug to fly
some of her fairy dust over to the fae castle, when little
petaldancer had seen the girls and gone to take a look, fae being
very nosey she had gone a little too far from her mother.Arwen and
Ceri put their little heads together and decided that their mother
would take care of Little petaldancer, they popped her into Arwens
basket and ran off to the cottage.
THeir mother was busy stirring the large pot on the fire and was
suprised to see the girls come running in, she looked worried but
between them they managed to get their story out. Mother was
concerend she had no idea how to care for a little fae then she
decided well one little girl is the same as another and carefull y
took out the handerchief- when little petaldancer saw Mrs woodcutter
she got so scared she thought mrs woodcutter was a giant, it took
ages to calm the little fae. Eventually they settled her in a small
box and put her on the dining table.
THe girls set about cleaning and preparing the vegetables for their
supper gaily chatting to the little fae and laughing to cheer her
up,and when ready the family sat down to their meal. Suddenly there
was a small shy knock at the cottage door. Mr woodcutter opened the
door and saw nothing, then he looked down and a huge procession of
the fairy court were there , the King and Queen right down to the
pages of the court resplendant in all their wonderful fae clothes-
Mrs wood cutter arrived and asked what they wanted, the King
explained that his neice Princess little petaldancer was missing and
her mother was so worried they had all set out to find the little
one. With big smiles Arwen and Ceri came to the door carrying the
Princess and the King and Queen were so delighted they granted the
family one wish each. mr woodcutter asked that the family would
always have enough wood to keep them warm even in the coldest
winter, Mrs woodcutter asked that her garden grow and thrive to
provide food for the family, Arwen and Ceri thought long and hard
and finally they agreed on what their wishes would be, for Princess
Petal dancer to be allowed to visit them and could they please have
some golden ribbons for their hair.
THe King granted their wishes.
THat night as the girls went up to their little room there on their
pillows were the most beautiful golden ribbons they had ever seen,
they rushed to the window and gently called out their thankyou to
the fae, Arwen was sure she saw a twinkling light right in the
middle of the Ivy.
